Himalayan salt is rich in trace minerals. The large 12 by 8 by 1.5 plate can be heated on the grill, range or in the oven so that foods can be seared on it. The Himalayan salt plate imparts flavor to beef, chicken, fish and shellfish. The set also comes with a porcelain-coated steel holder. This holder helps safely carry and present the salt plate when hot, and it also extends the useful life of the plate, which will eventually corrode over time. Finally, the set comes with Charcoal Companion's Salt Plate Recipe Book, which is packed with over 20 recipes and ideas to maximize the use and life of the salt plate. The plate is hand wash only, while the porcelain coated holder is dishwasher safe. HOW TO USE YOUR SALT PLATE: Use on the grill, on the range, or in the oven. To cook on your salt plate, heat it gradually (at least 30 minutes) to arrive at the plate's optimal cooking temperature of between 300 F and 400 F. Once the plate comes to temperature, you may either continue to cook over the heat or carefully remove the plate to a heat resistant surface and cook off the heat. The salt plate will maintain its temperature for quite some time, but please keep in mind that if you are cooking multiple batches, foods will acquire saltier flavor the longer they stay on the plate. When heating salt plate on a gas range or grill, heat gradually over the lowest flame possible. Your salt plate will also work wonderfully chilled in the refrigerator or freezer for serving and presenting. HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SALT PLATE: Himalayan salt is naturally antimicrobial and requires no cleansers. After use, simply wash the salt plate under warm water and scrub lightly with a soft brush or sponge. Do not submerge the plate in water. Dry with a paper towel to remove any excess pockets of water in the plate. Air-dry the plate for at least 24 hours before next use. Store salt plate in a dry environment until next use. YOUR SALT PLATE'S LIFE: Part of the charm of a Himalayan Salt Plate is the naturally occurring irregularities and fissures in the surface of the salt, none of which affect the cooking properties of the mineral. The color and form of each salt plate is unique and will change when heated. With use, the plate may develop more surface depressions and will eventually dissolve completely.
